Career diplomat Kapila Fonseka was appointed the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Stockholm with accreditation to Sweden and concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania & Norway in May 2024.

During his over twenty six years of service, Ambassador Fonseka has served in diverse capacities both at home and abroad including as the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Melbourne, overseeing the States of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania from May 2019 to June 2022. Previously, he had assignments in India (Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi), the UK (Sri Lanka High Commission in London) and Germany (Sri Lanka Embassy in Berlin).

Back in Colombo, he served in the International Security Cooperation, Economic Affairs, Protocol, Public Diplomacy, South Asia and SAARC, UN & HR as well as Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Fonseka has represented Sri Lanka in many capacities including the leader of the delegation in regional and multinational fora including the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Colombo Plan, and the Commonwealth.

He published his first book “තුරු හිසින නික්මී” (Thuru Hisina Nikmi), a collection of poetry, in 2023.

A senior officer from the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) Ambassador Fonseka is an alumni of the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He is married with two children.
